Junior Tour Guides

Our award-winning scheme lets young people across Scotland learn about their local heritage, gain new skills and have fun.

Our award-winning Junior Tour Guides scheme lets young people across Scotland learn about their local heritage while gaining new skills and having fun. It’s also a great way to start inspiring in the next generation the need to care for and protect our historic places.

You can even book a tour for your school group at some of our sites. Search our Schools Activity Programme.

The Craigmillar Castle Junior Tour Guides scheme was recently highlighted as an example of excellence during the inspection of a local school. Meanwhile, the scheme has helped Castleview Primary School pupils to:

  • build their confidence
  • develop strong communication skills
  • take pride in their local community
  • play an active role in improving their local community

We run the Junior Tour Guides scheme in partnership with drama specialists Illuminate UK. It’s a great way to deliver Curriculum for Excellence as it touches on multiple topics and helps children to develop skills for life and work.
