About us

The Local Government Boundary Commission for Scotland is responsible for:

  • carrying out reviews of the boundaries of local authority areas;
  • carrying out reviews of electoral wards for local authorities;
  • responding to requests for reviews of electoral wards or local authority areas;
  • carrying out reviews of constituencies and regions for the Scottish Parliament.

Under the terms of s.8 of the Scotland Act 2016, responsibility for reviews of Scottish Parliament boundaries passed from the Boundary Commission for Scotland to the Local Government Boundary Commission for Scotland with effect from 18 May 2017. A link to the legislation is here.


The Boundary Commission for Scotland is a separate body which is responsible for reviewing UK Parliament constituencies in Scotland. Details of its work can be found at http://www.bcomm-scotland.independent.gov.uk.
