Who are we?

Historic Environment Scotland is the lead public body established to investigate, care for and promote Scotland’s historic environment.

You can read more about our work on our website.

What's this website about?

Beginning in 2014, Historic Environment Scotland is among many organisations internationally who will be undertaking work to mark the centenary of the First World War.

A wide range of work is being undertaken by our staff throughout the five year period of the centenary to commemorate, educate and conserve this important part of our history. This includes exhibitions, living history, grants funding, educational resources and funding, designation and conservation of First World War remains, lectures and publications.

This website is here to share the work we are undertaking with the public, and to provide informative and accessible information both on the work we are doing for the centenary and of Scotland’s experience of the war itself.
