Overview

On 30 November 2020 the First Minister Nicola Sturgeon announced a one-off pro rata payment for Scotland’s lifesavers and caregivers on the frontline throughout the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Scottish Ministers have issued information on the payment as questions and answers, which are available on the Scottish Government website.

About this guidance

This guidance is for those who were employed in adult social care services or children’s residential care in the third, voluntary, charitable or private sector, registered with the Care Inspectorate. This is supplementary guidance for employees, where the eligible employer was unable to make the payment to the employee, as the organisation had ceased trading since the eligible period.

The process for eligible employees to apply for and receive the payment is being administered by Scotland Excel and Independent Living Fund (ILF) Scotland on behalf of the Scottish Government.

Employees who meet the eligibility criteria must apply to a national portal managed by Scotland Excel to receive the payment. They will be asked to complete an application which asks them to confirm details of their employment during the qualifying period. Further details about eligibility are avaialbel in this guide.

Those employees who are currently in receipt of benefits, are advised to contact an independent advisor to find out how the payment might affect their benefits.
