About the Scottish Parliament


Parliament business happens throughout the year, with periods of "recess" (breaks). During recess, there are normally no meetings in the Chamber and no committee meetings. MSPs are usually in their local areas where they carry on work with constituents. They can also continue to submit motions and written parliamentary questions.

Recess dates

Parliament will be in recess on the following dates:

  • 9 to 24 October 2021
  • 24 December 2021 to 9 January 2022
  • 12 to 20 February 2022 
  • 2 to 17 April 2022
  • 2 July to 4 September 2022
  • 8 to 23 October 2022
  • 24 December 2022 to 8 January 2023
